Your Hosts: William and Nelyn
Living down by the lake is one of the most relaxing feelings anyone can have. Everyday the lake changes it's looks and colour.
We have seen eagles dive and take fish with their huge talons, hundreds of cormorants and pelicans circling bait fish to the edge of the lake and feeding, I sometimes wonder how there is any fish left.
That is why we designed Lakeside Holiday Cottage for you to unwind, relax , slow down and soak up the fresh sea breeze.
Our Story - The History
Starts with Grandma and Pop. Thelma & Ted
Back in the early forties Grandma and Pop camped at Lake Conjola until they noticed land for sale at Lake Tabourie, bush covered land right by the lake.
They purchased the block and built a boat shed.
The first to be built by the lake, what we now call the strip.
No running water no electricity, tank water and kerosene lanterns, I loved the hissing sound the lanterns would make while using them for prawning.
As a young child I remember the flood and all the family sitting on the kitchen table as the water was about six inches deep inside the house, my father chasing an eel around the table with a toasting fork.

Grandma named it 'The Dog House'

A few years went by and the land next door the north side was purchased by Mr & Mrs Edwards.
They camped on the land while building their holiday home.

The little fellow in front is my buddy Terry Edwards we were always fishing, prawning and crabbing sun up to sunset where still best mates to this day.

Pop helping Mr Edwards to build their holiday home.
No electricity no power tools imagine the effort cutting and nailing the hard wood.

Finally they have completed their holiday home and named it 'YWURK' View from front.
Grandma and Pop then purchased the land next door south side of the Dog House and proceeded to build.

Grandma named it 'The White House' Finished 1957 View from front.
Not long after my uncle Bill and Aunty Bett Johnson purchased land next door to the Edwards.
My uncle being a builder, built their holiday home as dual occupancy.

They sold the house to, I can't remember his name he turned the house into single occupancy.
The house was then sold in 2000 to Mr and Mrs David and Jeanette Brown.
In 2018, I was able to purchase the house back to the family and with a lot of renovations it has become ..
'Lakeside Holiday Cottage'
Around 1960 the land north side of Lakeside was purchased by Mr Wilson he then built his holiday house then sold to Mr Clive Legge his wife Tess still lives there to this day, very lovely lady.
There you have it, a short story about the history of Lakeside and it's surrounding neighbours.
So come on down take a break do some fishing relax unwind and soak up the fresh sea breeze.
Ps. You should see what I have done to those house's over the years.
